2009 – The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly (or is that the beautifully challenged?)

In some ways 2009 was a great year for me, and other ways it wasn’t quite what I hoped for.

But watch out 2010, cause here I come! So many great projects coming this year, here’s 2009’s best for Thom Sequoia, and 2010’s plan to rule the world…..o.k., maybe just rule the little space here surrounding me….yuk, yuk.

2009 Great Stuff:
*  First and foremost, my wife and 4 sons are healthy with no major ailments, and through the good and the bad we are surviving! Love you Kim, Jordan, Joshua, Riley, and Sully!

*  Though my parents are both passed on, I hope they are smiling on a cushy celestial cloud. And by the way, while your up there, if you happen to run into the Almighty there’s a few things here on planet Earth I sure wish he’d fix, like…..oh, sorry, that’s for a different sort of blog all together!

*  God bless my brother and sisters, Susan, Robert, Kathie, Cheryl – love ya. It was great Read more…

Thom Sequoia new demo acoustic video – New song “Quotients Of Fate”

O.K. TS music fans everywhere: I’ve posted a Youtube video of a very raw acoustic peformance in my home studio of the first single that will be released on the upcoming CD “Ocean Blue”.

The song is “Quotients Of Fate”. Please give it a whirl, and if you like it, share it with a friend. If you’re feeling generous, grab the embed code off of youtube, and post it on your facebook or MySpace page, and share it with your friends list.

Or maybe send out an email to your email list, and paste the url off of youtube (upper right corner – just copy and paste) – or better yet, here it is right here….

This is a full song acoustic demo. I am hoping to finish the actual studio recording of this song this month, and am working on an official video release of the song. (i.e. – much higher quality – not just an acoustic play through)

Next up, I will be posting 2 more video’s, a Thom Sequoia Sneak Peek Parts 1 & 2, over the next week or two. Each of these will be a 10 minute long video, featuring acoustic demo’s of 5-6 song snippets that will appear on the CD’s “Ocean Blue”, and “Chasing Arizona”.

I would love for you to help me spread the music, and reach a bigger audience by word of mouth.

Thanks to all those friends and fans who have supported my live concerts, and music over the years.

Kemari Rawlings and Thom Sequoia Hit the studio for “No More Living For Tomorrow”

Went to the recording studio last night with Kemari Rawlings. We recorded a demo for the song we co-wrote, called “No More Living For Tomorrow”. It’s a vocal duet with Acoustic Guitar. Turned out really great!!!

We originally wrote the song in 45 minutes at the Art City Music Fest, a songwriting festival that had a day long collaboration of multiple artists and instrumentalists breaking off into groups and writing songs on the spot, then performing them that night. Since then we have tightened up the harmonies, and I re-wrote a few of the lines in the bridge, and the fourth verse.

If Kem agrees, I’ll maybe do a sneak peek week end  where you can listen to the demo track. The recording came out great!!!!!

Kem will be going to Nashville in the spring to do some recordings with her producer Rod Riley, who has played with Joe Nichols band, and I believe Gary Allen, and a whole lot of other great Country artists. We’re hoping that this song will get included on the album.

The duet is kinda cool, cause it’s like a crossroads, Kem being a great country singer, and my style being a little more Acoustic Rock with Americana vibes occasionally thrown in.

I’ll keep you posted.
Have a great day!

Thom Sequoia CD cover for Ocean Blue

Ocean Blue CD Cover

Here is the artwork for my hopefully soon (in Thom speak that means sometime this side of 2012) to be officially released CD “Ocean Blue”

The photo of me on the beach in front of the crashing waves is at Pescadero Beach in California, taken by my lifelong friend Neil “Hollywood” Burkhart, North of Santa Cruz, and South of Half Moon Bay.  the other photo is a shot overlooking the Santa Cruz inlet, where I used to hang out when I was younger, and where I slept in my van overnight just because the moon was strong, the sand and surf were subtle, and the stars were singing – a few years back on a visit to California to see my friends in the VDC, and my illustrious sister Kathie Kratochvil, of Theatre and Arts fame, a former director of the California Arts Project for the state of California and currently a professor at San Jose State University. (She has lived in the Felton/Ben Lomond area for many years.)

Indie All Stars project progress….Thom Sequoia Listening to…

As I have mentioned before, I own and organize AcoustiHouse Productions – a concert event promotion company that organizes, runs, produces, and books music festivals and events. Usually this is in the summer, but we are looking at doing another Christmas event in December.

Also, I have been hard at work with the project, selecting the top Artists and Bands in the world who are either unsigned or on Independent Record Labels. This project will have the website up and published in the next 2 months hopefully. The idea is to create a synergistic point of marketing for artists and bands to work together in creating leverage to increase their fan base and careers, and for the fans to have a trusted source of great music to discover new bands and artists around the world, without having to sort through the hundreds of thousands of not so good artists and bands that clutter the free internet.

Some of the recent artists and bands I’ve listened to that I highly recommend:

Ari Hest:   “Dead End Driving”

Jason Reeves:  “When Life Was Good”

Jessie Baylin:  “Was I On Your Mind”

Ellis Paul:  “Maria’s Beautiful Mess”

Shane Jackman:  “Sanctuary”

(Thanks Shane for asking me to perform on the album. I was able to sing harmony on “Raise My Eyes” along with Greg Simpson, and Cherie Call, and contribute in creating the harmony parts for the song “Simply Put”)

Mikal Blue:  “Heaven”

Adrina Thorpe:  “Impossible Dream”

Counting Crows:  “Promo video for Traveling Circus & Medicine Show”

( is showing them not signed to a major label – but unsigned now)

And just for good measure, here’s a few major artists with some cool new songs:

Foo Fighters:  “Wheels”

John Mayer:  “Who Says”

Sarah Mclachlan:

Happy listening.  Expect to see these and other great artists on my new music business project website

Coming soon to an interweb near you –
